An ancient fortress of Ovech is situated on a mountain plateau, east of town of Provadia, called "Kaleto". It was used in periods from the III to the VII century, and again from the XI until XVII century. The fortress can be reached on foot by three different paths. On the east side, via stairs carved into the rock, located almost on the road to the village of Dobrina. This path is also easily accessible by car. The western entrance is accessible from the town through the spiral staircase. The northern entrance is the main entrance, where a bridge is connecting the fortress with the neighbour plateau.

Today, the bridge structure, numerous wells for water collection, the ruins of several churches, watchtowers, the stone north gate (on the pictur) and the approaches to the fortress have been preserved and renovated.

A 79m water well around which large storage tanks for gathering rain water are carved.

A 150m long wooden bridge connects the two plateaus. At the end of the bridge is located the northern stone gate, which is also the main entrance to Ovech fortress and plateau Kaleto. While walking on the bridge take some time to enjoy the stunning view over the city of Provadia.

The other end of the bridge connects the fortress Ovech with the Tabiite plateau.

Ovech Fortress, Provadia
A new 23-meter cross was erected in 2019, near the wooden bridge on the Tabiite Plateau. The cross is visible throughout the city, including in the evening when it is brightly lit.
