The monastery is situated on a hill south of Hadjidimovo (about 15 km northeast from the city of  Gotse Delchev) on an old Christian sanctuary. The third largest monastery in Southwest Bulgaria was consecrated in 1865 and is declared as a cultural monument of regional significance.

The monastery was burned twice. In 1979, the temple burned completely, where only the miraculous icon of St. George survived.
